An active (or active ingredient) is a component in skincare products that has a scientifically proven effect on the skin. Actives are responsible for visibly improving skin concerns such as acne, pigmentation, wrinkles, or dullness. Well-known examples include retinol, vitamin C, niacinamide, salicylic acid, and hyaluronic acid.
At Prescription Skincare, actives are prescribed in the exact right concentration and combination, tailored to your unique skin needs. This makes them more targeted and effective than standard over-the-counter skincare products.

A pure active contains one or a few potent ingredients in high concentrations, without soothing or hydrating additives like oils or humectants that are often found in serums. This can make a pure active feel more watery, dry, or even slightly tingly. That’s completely normal—it means the ingredient is working directly and intensely on your skin.

Botanicals are plant-based extracts derived from flowers, herbs, roots, or leaves. In skincare, they are used for their natural antioxidants, soothing effects, and hydrating properties. They support the skin gently and are often suitable for sensitive skin types.

The Basics line from Prescription includes high-quality botanicals such as aloe vera (soothing and hydrating), edelweiss extract (protective and antioxidant), jojoba oil (softening), and calendula (anti-inflammatory). These natural ingredients enhance the effect of the actives without overloading the skin.

This depends on your skin type and condition. Our AI Skin Scan analyzes your skin and selects the right actives for oily, dry, sensitive, or combination skin types.

Yes, but with caution. Some combinations can cause irritation. Prescription creates a safe and effective combination tailored to your skin based on your scan results.

Yes, you can. However, it’s important that your cleanser or cream does not already contain strong active ingredients. Some cleansers contain acids like glycolic acid or salicylic acid, and some creams may contain retinol (usually indicated on the label). Combining these with our actives can be too harsh for your skin. If your cleanser and cream are plant-based, that’s absolutely fine!

Yes, you can. The gentle Aloe Vera Cleanser removes both your daily makeup and eye makeup (like mascara). The Edelweiss Cleanser deeply cleanses your skin of makeup and other pollutants absorbed throughout the day, but it should not be used on the eyes. For a deep cleanse, you can mix the Edelweiss Cleanser with 4 drops of Glycolic Acid 10%, Mandelic Acid 20%, or Salicylic Acid 2% + Azelaic Acid 7%.

Always use SPF—especially during sun exposure. We recommend at least SPF30. Check out our Shield Cream SPF30 and our award-winning SPF50 Drops, which can be reapplied throughout the day, even over makeup.
Ingredients like retinol, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid make your skin more sensitive to UV rays. These sun-sensitive actives should be used at night, always combined with daytime sun protection.
Ingredients like niacinamide, vitamin C, mandelic acid, and hyaluronic acid are safe for daytime use and pair well with SPF.

Retinol, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun. Use them in the evening and always apply SPF during the day.

Not all actives are safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Be sure to mention this during your skin scan so we can tailor your routine accordingly.

On average, you’ll see improvements within 4 to 8 weeks. For concerns like acne or pigmentation, it might take longer. You can always reach out to one of our skin experts via hello@prescription-beauty.com.

The AI Skin Scan by Prescription is a smart skin analysis tool based on artificial intelligence. Using just a selfie, it assesses your skin’s condition—including blemishes, redness, pores, and pigmentation—and provides a personalized skincare recommendation.
The technology is developed by dermatologists, skin therapists, and cosmetic doctors, so your skin advice is truly expert-backed.

Our technology is built with dermatologists, skin therapists, and AI engineers, and trained on millions of skin data points. It delivers a 100% objective skin analysis.

Yes, the AI has been trained on a wide range of skin types and tones, ensuring accurate results for everyone.

If you're serious about tackling your skin concern, we recommend using the full routine. But you can absolutely start with one or two actives, or one active combined with a basic product like a cleanser, cream, balm, or oil. Each active’s page clearly explains how to use it, and our skin duos section shows the best combinations.

If you're happy with your results and your skin is in good condition, you can continue with the same routine. If your skin has changed or a new season is starting, feel free to do a new scan for an updated recommendation.

Stop using the product and contact us immediately. We’ll give you personalized advice and adjust your plan if needed.
